24 October 2024Meaningful people in CSi's history
Johan Alderliesten worked at CSi for 30 years and is now enjoying his well-deserved retirement. As a Quality assurance specialist, he engaged with everyone across the company. He shares memories of a few people and the importance of their work for CSi.
Christ van de Wouw (’71 – ’14) was head of the machine shop from 1971 to 2005
"In the past, CSi was all about production, with a large team of engineers and a machine shop. Thirty years ago, a young Christ van de Wouw took over as head of the machine shop when his predecessor had to step down due to illness. He always stood up for his team, maybe even too much at times. If a drawing wasn’t right, he wouldn’t send the welder back to the engineer—Christ would go himself. He wasn’t necessarily a typical manager, but circumstances pushed him into that role and he had real potential. I have great respect for how Christ supported his team when it was announced that the machine shop would be moved to Romania. He truly empathised with his people and protected them, that was impressive.”
Corné de Oude (’93 - now) and William Oomes (’94 - now) started coordinating transport from 2015 resp. 2021
"I have a lot of respect for how they manage transport logistics. Sending trucks loaded with conveyors and other equipment abroad, also outside Europe, is no easy task. Regulations can vary greatly from country to country. Back in the day, I would sometimes take over transport coordination when someone was on holiday. The pressure is high when the driver is waiting, and the paperwork isn’t ready yet. Take William for example, a guy who started out in assembly and learned the ropes of transport coordination. You have to work with precision, documenting everything accurately, and be familiar with a host of abbreviations and terms. There are many options to consider, like customs clearance, transport options, and who covers what costs. Corné and William, both down-to-earth guys, handle it all seamlessly."
Johan Alderliesten (’88 – ’19) was Quality assurance specialist from 2007 to 2019
Of course, Johan himself is also a significant figure in CSi’s history. He shares a memory from his time as a Quality assurance specialist:
"People working in field assembly represent CSi. They are out there [with the client] on their own. Sometimes, they even manage teams of up to 25 people—in my eyes, they are managers. Many of them had only completed vocational training, but they had greater potential. At one point, they were offered a management course, but some felt they didn’t belong there. I spoke with them, helping them to see their own capabilities. I hope I made a difference in showing people what they were truly capable of."
